Susan!! I've literally been doing this all week! I decluttered our truckbed, the bathroom cabinet, and the spice cabinet this week and I'm going to keep going. It's a path to peace. So timely. Love this!
Awesome to hear this and super pumped you are getting so much writing done! Hat tip to you! I like the idea of cleaning and cluttering, it is the execution the falls short. Of the books you listed, which would you recommend for the easily overwhelmed? Asking for a friend. 😁
It is great to get back to more writing after the hectic start of the school year. I think I actually liked watching videos on YouTube more than reading, because hearing the messages helped solidify my mindset around it and I could listen to them for motivation while decluttering. For execution, The Minimal Mom has body doubling videos that help with accountability. But when I started I'd just text my niece to let her know I was decluttering and when I got stuck, she'd be the one to talk me through it with her "if it's not a clear yes, it's a no" advice. Or just set a timer for 10 minutes and do something small, like a bathroom drawer. There's lots of different ways to approach it! Definitely involve the kids--good luck!
I am not very good at decluttering. I have a hard time parting with things. I tried to part with my teacher credential books last week while going through boxes and could not. It's nuts, but I can't do it. Maybe when I'm solidly back in a classroom or out of the toddler stage I can be better about this. I do find your decluttering magic inspiring. So much is inspiring about these posts. Love to see the literary work you're doing and the connections you're making. The journey your on sounds really cool.
The journey has had lots of ups and downs but mostly feels like it's exactly where I should be. Before I declutter, sometimes it takes me months to get into the right mindset to tackle it! Not easy for me either--it takes a lot of time to mentally prepare.
